Things I have learned since my daughter started Kindergarten

Finally, life is calming down now that my daughter is in school. We are getting settled into a routine which is such a blessing. Life is very different and it has taken awhile to get used to the quietness and time available to finally get stuff done.

The following are a few things I have learned and observed since my daughter Kindergarten:
  • I am thankful for back country roads because making a left turn out of the school parking lot is next to impossible.
  • I am tempted to make a citizens arrest on a few punk teenagers who don't know how to drive on these back roads. That is the side effect of the high school being next to our only elementary school.
  • Most parents are clueless.
  •  I would support uniforms in our schools. My daughter is too much of a diva about clothes and seeing the high school girls in daisy dukes and showing cleavage irritates me as a mother.
  • The old guys who sit at McDonald's in the morning make for interesting entertainment.
  • There really is such a thing as running into the grocery store and grabbing ONLY what you need and be back in your car within 5 minutes!
  • The days are not nearly as long as I thought they would be.
  • The perfect time to clean up the inside of my car is when I am waiting in the line to pick her up. It is also the perfect time to pay bills, make phone calls, or play 'Angry Birds'.
  • I am elated to be without Spongebob Squarepants during the day. Wish you could see my dance of joy for that- it's a little Irish jig with some disco in the mix.
  • My dogs don't know what to do with themselves when the house is so quiet- so they annoy me more.
  • Going for walks in the crisp morning while the sun is still rising is priceless.
  • Attempting to find a job after being home for 6 years is not easy emotionally.
  • After school is more hectic than I ever imagined since my daughter tries to cram in everything we used to do together during the day into the few hours between school and bedtime.

I'm sure I will learn a lot more as the year goes on, but the changes in life have been interesting.

  1. Lol- So true, so true! I'm glad I didn't have a daughter, just for the clothes reason alone. I see so many teenage (and younger!) wearing clothes that barely cover there lady bits, and have to wonder what the Sam hill is wrong with the parents??

New follower from MBC :) Look forward to reading more from you!

    1. Thanks for following! Yes, I think having a boy would be SO much easier in the clothes department. It's a struggle. I can't believe what teenage girls wear these days! I was in high school only 14 years ago and can say it was nothing like it is now. Keep stopping by. Hopefully I can start posting more.

  2. I love how you describe the back country roads. I would love to know where you live. I live in the sticks too and went to a high school in a small town as well. So I know a lot about that.

I too have a daughter and if she thought she could get away with it, she would be a clothes horse. LOL. As it is she talks her grandmas into getting her too many things. She just loves sparkly things. I am glad she has not noticed the teenage girls and what they wear though, I guess it does not interest her.

Time does fly, but for me that is true no matter what time of year it is. I will say this though every new routine makes for interesting discoveries and new things to learn about you and your life. I love those times. It is chance to create what you want it to be.

I found your blog on MBC and I am glad that I stopped by and read it, because I really enjoyed your post. =D

    1. Thanks for following! I will say I live in Indiana. Our town is around 6,000-7,000. So even though we live in town technically, I can take a right turn out of the school and be on country back roads and take the back entrance into our subdivision. Love that part..because turning left on a highway is not fun! My daughter is only 5 so I can't imagine how the teenage years will be! Aaah!! Keep stopping by...I hope to be able to post more often.
